Total number of completed stories in 2013:

Oh man, I have to check, I haven't even counted. I couldn't even guess.
...Apparently the number is 51. Holy crap.

And a half, because of The Write Books About This Sort of Thing, which isn't done yet, but I'm posting it as a WIP, so it counts for half.

Total word count:

366,268. This number, at least, is not a surprise, though it does still blow my mind.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?

Considering I wrote a grand total of 10k in 2012, I'd say that this is well beyond what I ever could have predicted at this time last year.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

I signed up for fests! Actually, this whole year has been marked by me saying that something frightens or intimidates me, and then promptly doing exactly that. "Longfic scares me!" I said. "I like PWP, writing something plotty seems intimidating!" I said. "Oh, I'm not sure about fests, deadlines make me nervous!" I said.

"Ha. Ha. Ha," my muse said.

Do you have any specific fanfic goals for the New Year?

Well, I just signed up for the third round of Trope Bingo and my card is amazing so I think I will definitely be aiming for another blackout. Other than that, I think my goal is to just keep writing and keep enjoying it.

From my past year of writing, what was…

My best story of this year:

Oof. That's such a judgment call. You Are the Moon is my current favorite, and I think it's got a lot going for it from a technical standpoint.

My most popular story of this year:

Lay Your Hands on Me, which kind of took on a life of its own and is my most popular fic to date by a rather significant margin. Which is fine by me, because I still love it tons. Fourteen thousand hits, though, good god. That will never not be staggering.

Most fun story to write:

That's probably a toss-up between Lay Your Hands on Me and As the Sun Will Rise. On the one hand, lots of music geekery and ridiculously fun hand/finger kink! On the other, Les Amis as Disney characters.

Hardest story to write:

I took a long break in the middle of In the End We Have Each Other that made it really difficult, once I got back to it, to get back into the groove, and I spent much of the second half of the fic feeling like I was completely failing to live up to the awesome voices and characterizations that I'd had in the first. Still, it all worked out in the end!

Biggest Disappointment:

I don't think any of the fics that I wrote have been disappointing, but of course there's always fics that you wish had reached a larger audience than they do. The Stars Look Very Different Today, in particular, is one whose hit count occasionally makes me sadface, because I enjoyed it so much, and I think it's a really lovely fic. But it's the rarest of rarepairs, and that pretty much hobbled it from the start.

Story I haven’t yet written, but intend to:

So there's this fic I am definitely going to write where Grantaire is a selkie and Enjolras accidentally steals his pelt and then he ends up with this irritating guy trotting on his heels bugging him constantly and trying to convince him that all his activism is just an effort in futility and working his way under his skin and into his heart and I'm super excited about it.

It's my ficiversary! A year ago today, I finished writing my very first fanfic, Extracurricular. Hard to believe it's been so long already, but I sure have had a blast. I thought I'd look back on the past year with a little meme.

Total Fics: 26
-Merlin: 11
-Teen Wolf: 10
-Vikings: 3
-Les Misérables: 2
Total Word Count: 151,750. WHAT THE HELL. o_O

Fandom with the most fics: Merlin by a nose! I'm glad, seeing as how it was my very first. :D

Fandom with the highest word count: Vikings, surprisingly enough! If I'd been just a little slower finishing my last fic, though (or if it hadn't been such a huge monstrosity), that honor would've gone to Les Mis, even though it's only got two fics total.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted at the beginning of the year?
Well, I certainly did not expect to fall so far down the fandom hole that I ended up writing in four of them, so pretty much everything but Merlin is a surprise. The fact that over a third of the words that I've written have been rated Teen was a big surprise, though, considering I got into fandom for the porn.

Also, uhh. I told someone a while back that longfic intimidated the hell out of me. And now I've got four fics that are 20k or longer. And one of them is almost twice that long. Yeah, that's definitely a surprise!

What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but he one that makes you happiest?
It's difficult to choose, but probably Lay Your Hands On Me. There is so much in that fic that delights me, from the hand/finger kink to Grantaire's mischievous sense of humor, to all the music. Alllllll the music.

My best story of this year: Oof. That's a hard one! I'm going to go with On Earth As It Is In Heaven, because instead of being a one-off sort of thing, that one actually chronicles the whole process of the relationship, from their initial, conflicted meeting, through to affection and sex and then commitment. I've written a couple others that did similar, but Athelstan in this one goes through the biggest transformation and the most growth.

My most popular story of this year: Lay Your Hands On Me, by a landslide. Holy crap. The Les Mis fandom is scary and amazing.

Most fun story to write: As the Sun Will Rise was such a blast. Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite movies, and getting to riff of it and use it to humorous effect was a tremendous amount of fun.

Story with the single sexiest moment: There is a ton of food porn in Amuse-Bouche that reallllly did it for me. If I had to pick one moment, though -- probably the scene where Ragnar feeds Athelstan the little gelatinized ball of saffron-and-chardonnay soup and Athelstan bites into it and it bursts and drips all over his chin and mouth and Ragnar drags his fingers through the mess and, um, excuse me, I need to go take a cold shower.

Most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Unbroken, which not only has dub-con that's so dubby it treads the line of actual non-con, but also has Arthur fucking Merlin as an Almost Actual Wolf. I wouldn't call it "wrong", as I like that fic an awful lot, but it's definitely the one that pushes the limits the hardest.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: To the Beat of a Heart. I'd never written Laura before, nor pre-bite Erica, but it really gave me a better appreciation for Erica, in particular, and her struggle with her epilepsy and her self-image and her fierce determination.

Hardest story to write: Unbroken, which spent at least six months half-finished and collecting dust on my hard drive because I really wanted to use the fic to explore the ramifications of that initial dub-con/non-con scene, but I had a real struggle with actually figuring out how to portray it in a way that was interesting and still seemed real.

Favorite Opening Line(s): Where Nothing Remains: "You are still my king," Merlin whispered in the close, private space against the hollow of Arthur's throat, where he smelled like soap and skin.

Favorite Closing Line(s): As the Sun Will Rise: "So you did," Grantaire said, and pulled him into a fierce embrace. He shuddered with gratitude inside of Enjolras's arms, and pressed his face into his golden hair. Enjolras's brightness washed over him, and for the first time in longer than Grantaire could remember, he felt clean and safe and good. It felt like a fresh start.

Story I haven't yet written, but intend to: I haven't quite got a handle on it enough to start it yet, but there's a Les Mis Western AU idea bouncing around in my head that I really want to write.

Fic-writing goal for the next year: Oh man… I'm not sure? I just want to keep writing and keep having fun, really. Brevity is definitely still something I struggle with, but considering how much I've ended up loving my longfics, I'd be hard-pressed to complain about that.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] teprometo because it looks like a hoot and a half.

I have 24 works archived at AO3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 24 (the first thing I posted there), and I'll either tell you three things or answer three questions about it - your choice.

Because stealing looks at people's writing is super fun. ^_^

Some of these are going to be origfic, since I don't have enough of a fanfic backlog to make 21.

"I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's Parker ...she likes money and cereal." I'd love it if everyone who's friended me did this. (Yes, even you people who I know really well.) Then post this in your own journal [only if you feel inclined]. In return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an answer*."
